Today’s success tip comes from Sue Ismiel.

Sue is a mother of three and creator the Nad’s Hair Removal product. Within a few years it was the foundation of a multi-million dollar company, spaning several countries.

What’s it like working with your husband and two of your three daughters?

My family has been involved with the business right from the start. There is nothing like working with family. If a company is to be successful then it obviously has to have a network of people who support it. In the past I have had bad experiences with people whom I trusted but didn’t know very well, so having a network of trustworthy people to work with is very important.

I have learnt over the years that the people who care most about you are your immediate family and your close friends, and they’re the ones you can trust and rely on.

My husband Sam has always been my greatest support. He gave up his own work in 1993 as soon as I started advertising on TV. He was already working in the business part-time, as well as working in his own job, but the response to the TV campaign was so huge that I needed help, so soon we were working together full-time.

Today he is a director of the company. His patience, more than anything, has been a great help to me. Like everyone, we do have our differences, but Sam has a great sense of humour and that tends to diffuse things really well.

In 2000 we renamed our company from Nad’s Pty Ltd to Sue Ismiel and Daughters Enterprises Pty Ltd, to reflect the involvement of my daughters. Nadine is head of research and development, as well as being a member of the executive team. She has a very strong personality and often reminds me of myself. Quite often we disagree on things because we are so much alike.

Natalie is currently our marketing coordinator, and as a model, she is also the face of Nad’s print and television advertising campaigns. My youngest, Naomi, is a graphic designer.

It is one of the great pleasures and rewards that I can continue to work and spend every day with my daughters even now that they have grown and left school.

For more great tips and advice stay tuned for next week’s success tip.

Until then,

Hey guys! Tehillah here.

We’re up to week 5 of our Vegetarian Tip!

This week’s ingredient to avoid is Anchovies. Now I know many of you are probably thinking “duh, of course we know to avoid anchovies…”, but what a lot of people don’t know is that many sauces, dressings and marinades contain these small salty fish.

Due to the strong flavor, anchovies are often used to make sauces such a Worcestershire sauce. Another common sauce that may have traces of anchovies through it, is Barbecue sauce. The reason for this is that some Barbecue sauces contain Worcestershire sauce as a flavor boost or even a main ingredient.

A pretty safe way to be sure you’re not getting traces of anchovies in your food is to, once again, always read your ingredients labels, and know what to look for. Food manufacturers can be fairly tricky with the ingredients they label, for instance, it may be stated in the ingredients of a Barbecue sauce bottle that the sauce contains “Worcestershire sauce” without mentioning the use of anchovies. So reading, and understanding food labels is a must. Another important Vegetarian Tip.

An even better way to make sure you know what you’re eating, for those who have some time on their hands, is to make your own sauces. It’s not as hard as it sounds, in fact it can be as simple or as challenging as you like. The choices vary from marinades that can take hours to make, to sauces that can be thrown together using everyday herbs and spices from the pantry in a few minutes.

Just to show you how easy it can be to create great tasting sauces in your own home, some time in the coming weeks I myself [who has very limited experience in the kitchen] am going to whip up several sauces and post their recipes along with my results for you guys. That should be interesting, so stick around.

That’s it for this week, thanks for reading this week’s Vegetarian Tip!

Til next week,
Tehillah.

Today’s success tip comes from Peter Barr-Thomson.

After seeking the assistance of a coach, Peter discovered his true calling and founded Ingenius Coaching. Five years on, Ingenius now has offices in Brisbane, Melbourne and Hong Kong.

How does someone go about finding his or her real individual genius?

In my experience, the following steps are essential on the journey to discovering and living your individual genius:

1. Believe it is possible - yep, it’s as simple as that. If we truly begin to believe we are a genius (even if we fake it ’til we make it) anything is possible. So, begin right now! Say to yourself, ‘Maybe I am a genius!’ Did it hurt? Did it change anything? Once we express the possibility through verbalising it, the real work (or fun) begins.

2. Clarify exactly what it is - to work this out we created a formula that truly uncovers the absolute essence of your genius. Like Einstein, we decided to keep our formula as simple as possible. Where Einstein had E=mc≤, we have G=p5ô:
Genius = passion, potential, purpose, persistence, plan
Passion - what you love to be or do.
Potential - what you are good at or could be good at (also consider what others say you are good at or compliment you on).
Purpose - the reason and meaning behind your motivation and beyond yourself (even if it isn’t Earth-shattering).
Persistence - who you are and what you value and believe will support you in your quest, no matter what the challenges and pitfalls are.
Plan - the well thought-out and structured map that will guide and focus you to your genius and success.

3. Take consistent, disciplined action toward goals that truly reflects your genius - for example, one of my geniuses (under the above criteria) is coaching. The goal I have here is to continually strive to be the best coach I can be, reflected in the specific outcome of consistently working with 20 individuals in my chosen market and achieving above 95 per cent satisfaction rate with those clients.

4. Review your goals regularly - ensure they are still valid and relevant.

5. STOP and celebrate your successes - all of them! You deserve it!

Hey guys! Tehillah here.

Today we’re up to week four. This week’s ingredient to avoid is commonly listed as Lard.
Most of you would have at least heard of it, but for those of you who haven’t, lard is just a word for solid animal fat, mainly pig fat.

Lard is used in a lot of cooking, chances are you’ve seen it for sale at the supermarket. It is often used in making pie crusts, as it makes for flakier crusts that those made using butter. Lard is also used in some canned foods, such as refried beans.

Avoiding lard in your food is simple. Lard is required to be listed in the ingredients label of any product you purchase, so the best way to make sure you know what you’re eating is to always at least glance at ingredients labels when shopping. It doesn’t take long, and it keeps you aware of what you’re putting on yours and your family’s plates at dinner time.

Just a short one this week, thanks for reading.

Til next week,
Tehillah.

Stock Market Advice from Lyn Summers
Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Today’s success tip comes from Lyn Summers.

Having overcome a battle with cancer, Lyn travelled to the US to learn how to trade the stock market. She then co-founded Stock Course and has enjoyed consistent returns of 2-6 per cent month.

What do you think are the essential qualities of a successful share market trader?

Discipline - successful share market traders develop trading plans and have the discipline to stick to them. If they don’t, they lose!

Patience - new traders often make the mistake of over-trading. They think they need to be in the market at all times. That’s not right. Successful share market traders understand that when the market is choppy and they’re not sure what it will do next, the smart thing to do is to sit on the sidelines and wait. Successful traders also let trades come to them. They watch for the right set, and wait until all of their criteria are lined up. They don’t anticipate!

Perseverance - every trader has losses and anyone who tells you otherwise is kidding you. Successful traders learn from their losses, dust themselves down and get back into it. This is why it is a good idea to paper trade in the beginning until you get it right.

Tune back next week for more success tips.

Take care,

Allan Poole

Hey Guys! Tehillah here.

We’re up to week 3 already! I hope you’ve found my weekly tips helpful so far.

This week the ingredient to look out for is found mainly in jelly, gummy lollies and jams, and is listed in the ingredients as gelatin.
Gelatin is a translucent [clear], colourless, almost tasteless substance derived from the skin and bones of animals.

No surprise, gelatin is used as a gelling agent, meaning it is used to thicken liquid solutions. Ever wondered how jelly can go from a liquid to that wobbly blob that you just feel the urge to poke at? That’s the gelatin working.

Some low fat yoghurts also contain gelatin, so keep an eye out.
There’s good news though, for those of you who don’t want to give up your jelly or jam, you don’t have to! Gelatin is just one of the ways that can be used to thicken up all those goodies, thankfully these days there are quite a few.

One vegetarian gelling agent commonly used as a replacement for gelatin is known as agar agar (E406). Agar agar is derived from a species of red sea vegetable. It has stronger setting properties than gelatin, and unlike gelatin, agar agar can set at room temperature after about an hour, although it is advisable to store food containing agar agar in the fridge.

The best way to make sure you aren’t purchasing food containing gelatin is just careful ingredient label reading. if you see the words gelatine, gelatin, gelatina or anything closely resembling those words, avoid that particular product. Many products are made these days with vegetarians in mind, so it is fairly easy to find a vegetarian version of your favourite jelly or jam.

That’s it for this week, good luck guys!

Til next week,

A Tip for Success from Suzi Dafnis
Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Today’s success tip comes from Suzi Dafnis.

Suzi was the founder of Pow Wow Events, a company distributes books and other learning products, and occupies more than 50% of the market in the personal finance, personal development and business skills segment. Having now sold that company, she is the director of the Australian Business Women’s Network.

Having attended hundreds of seminars on business and personal development, can you list some of the most valuable lessons you’ve learnt from them?

Some of the most valuable lessons include:

Integrity - You need to be able to sleep with a clear conscious, so have integrity in your dealings with others and with yourself. Keep your relationships above board and work for the highest good.

Karma - I really believe that you reap what you sow. If you believe you are a victim of scarcity, there will never be enough money, clients or business. If you believe in abundance, you’ll be generous and it will flow back to you.

Assets vs Liabilities - This is a big one, many business owners know how to generate cash but they don’t know how to keep it. Using cash flow to buy assets, which in turn produce their own cash flow, means that your money is working for you, rather than you just working for your money. This was an idea that I mainly got from Robert Kiyosaki.

Marketing and Innovation - Without these components, you don’t have a business. No matter how good you think your product is, if you cannot market it you will go broke. Innovation is not about inventing something new, it is the commitment to the ongoing improvement of what you do, whether it is the way you answer the phone, the way you market, or the way you recruit. Innovation is what differentiates exceptional companies from average ones.

Numbers - Business is a numbers game. If you don’t understand financials, make sure somebody you trust does. No matter how fun it might be to take on a business activity, at the end of the day if it loses you money, it’s not worth doing unless it’s going to get you some other goal down the line. We’ve had some great fun projects that the team loved taking part in which cost us a lot of time and money.

Responsibility - Some people think that responsibility means taking on a lot of work. What it means to me is doing what you say you are going to do. As a business owner, I’m 100 per cent responsible for the success or failure of the business. Staff can and should be held accountable for their areas of the business, and my responsibility is to hold them accountable for what they say they will do, and to set an example by keeping my word.
